Overview

Xlucane is a biosimilar to Lucentis (ranibizumab), developed for the treatment of serious retinal vascular disorders, primarily wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). The active ingredient is ranibizumab, a monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits angiogenesis by binding to and neutralizing vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby preventing excessive formation of blood vessels in the retina. Xlucane has demonstrated equivalent efficacy and safety compared to Lucentis in pivotal phase III clinical trials. It is being developed and commercialized through partnerships involving Xbrane Biopharma, STADA, Valorum Biologics, and Helvetic BioPharma for various global markets[1][2][5][6][7].
