Overview

XMMME-001 is a **murine monoclonal antibody** that selectively binds to epitopes on human melanoma-associated antigens. As a therapeutic agent, it is commonly utilized as part of an **immunoconjugate** with the **A chain of ricin** (XMMME-001-RTA), creating a melanoma-specific immunotoxin. The antibody acts as a targeting vehicle, delivering the toxic ricin A chain to melanoma cells, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and inducing cell death. The immunotoxin has shown specificity for melanoma cell lines and little to no reactivity with normal cells or other cancer cell types. The XMMME-001 antibody and its immunotoxin conjugates were developed and studied for the treatment of metastatic malignant melanoma, with early-phase clinical results indicating modest antitumor activity, particularly in pulmonary and soft tissue metastases. Immune response against the murine antibody and ricin moiety remains a challenge for clinical efficacy[1][3].
