XOlacta is an exosome-delivered peptide therapeutic developed by The Tiny Cargo Company. It utilizes a proprietary drug delivery platform that involves isolating exosomes from bovine milk and loading them with a modified αCT11 peptide, a mimetic of the carboxyl terminal of Gap junction alpha-1 protein (Connexin 43). The platform achieves high loading efficiency (>99%) and is designed to protect tissues from radiation-induced damage by modulating Connexin 43-mediated signaling and gap junction communication. XOlacta is being developed as a supportive care agent for cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy to reduce debilitating side effects and as a medical countermeasure for radio-nuclear emergencies. The drug has received FDA clearance to enter clinical trials via the Animal Rule pathway. Tiny Cargo is also exploring the application of this technology in ischemic heart disease, gastrointestinal radiation disease, and glioblastoma multiforme.
