Drug intelligence / Profile preview
XP-0863 is an investigational **ready-to-use, highly concentrated liquid diazepam formulation for intramuscular injection** being developed by Xeris for the treatment of **acute repetitive seizures** in patients aged 2 years and older, including those with partial-onset or generalized convulsive seizure clusters. It is a **small molecule** product that uses Xeris' **XeriSol** non-aqueous formulation technology to overcome diazepam solubility limitations and enable rapid IM administration without reconstitution. Pharmacologically, diazepam is a **benzodiazepine** that enhances inhibitory GABAergic neurotransmission by acting as a **positive allosteric modulator of GABA-A receptors**, thereby reducing abnormal neuronal hyperexcitability. The program has been described as having FDA Fast Track designation and orphan drug designations for acute repetitive seizures and Dravet syndrome, and has been positioned to move directly into Phase 3 registration studies in pediatric and adult epilepsy populations.
