Overview

XPC-837 is an orally available, central nervous system (CNS)-penetrant small molecule developed by Xenon Pharmaceuticals. It acts as a highly selective potentiator of the voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.1. The drug is being investigated primarily for the treatment of Dravet syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Preclinical studies have shown that acute and chronic dosing with XPC-837 suppresses spontaneous and induced seizures, prevents sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), improves motor function, and increases long-term potentiation—a potential correlate of learning and memory. These findings suggest that XPC-837 could offer a novel therapeutic approach for Dravet syndrome by restoring interneuron function through selective Nav1.1 channel potentiation[1][2][6].
