Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**XPL Second Skin** is a two-step, topical silicone-elastomer skin-barrier technology originally developed through Living Proof and Olivo Laboratories and subsequently acquired by Shiseido. A polysiloxane and fumed-silica formulation is applied to skin, followed by a platinum-catalyst formulation that drives hydrosilylation-mediated in-situ crosslinking to form a transparent, flexible, semi-occlusive polymer film. Rather than acting through a conventional molecular target, the film mechanically supplements impaired skin-barrier function, reduces water loss, and mimics aspects of the elasticity and mechanical behavior of healthy skin. It was evaluated in a small pilot study in adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis and has also been investigated for cosmetic correction of wrinkles and lower-eyelid bags.
