Overview

XRCC5 siRNA is a research-grade small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the XRCC5 gene, which encodes the Ku80 protein. Ku80 is a critical component of the non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) pathway, responsible for repairing DNA double-strand breaks. By knocking down XRCC5, researchers can investigate its role in various biological processes, particularly in oncology. Studies have demonstrated that XRCC5 knockdown can inhibit tumor growth, migration, and invasion in cancers such as melanoma, colon cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma, often by modulating downstream signaling pathways like PDK-1 or COX-2. While widely used in laboratory settings and available from commercial reagent suppliers like MedChemExpress and GE Dharmacon, it is not currently a clinical-stage therapeutic candidate.
