Overview

XTL-686 is an orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) NS3/4A serine protease. Developed by XTL Biopharmaceuticals through a licensing agreement with Kureha Corporation, the compound was designed to block viral replication by preventing the proteolytic cleavage of the HCV polyprotein into functional non-structural proteins. XTL-686 was primarily investigated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection. Clinical development reached Phase 1/2 stages; however, the program was ultimately discontinued as the company shifted its strategic focus and the competitive landscape for HCV protease inhibitors evolved rapidly.
