XTR012 is a radiopharmaceutical therapeutic agent being developed by Sinotau Pharmaceutical Group as a generic version of Xofigo (radium-223 dichloride). It contains the radioisotope radium-223, which acts as a calcium mimetic with a high natural affinity for bone tissue, particularly in areas of increased bone turnover associated with skeletal metastases. Upon administration, XTR012 incorporates into the bone matrix and emits high-energy, short-range alpha particles. These alpha particles induce lethal double-strand DNA breaks in nearby tumor cells, providing a targeted cytotoxic effect while limiting exposure to the surrounding healthy bone marrow. XTR012 is primarily intended for the treatment of bone metastases in patients with cancers such as prostate cancer and is being developed via the Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) pathway.
