Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xuanfei Baidu Granules (XFBD) is a proprietary Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed for the treatment of respiratory infections and inflammatory lung conditions. Originally formulated during the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the "Three Formulas and Three Medicines" (San Yao San Fang), it was approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China in March 2021 for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19. The preparation is a complex mixture of herbal extracts, including *Ephedra sinica*, *Armeniaca sibirica*, *Gypsum fibrosum*, and *Coix lacryma-jobi*, among others. Its mechanism of action involves multi-target modulation of inflammatory pathways, reduction of cytokine storms, and improvement of lung function. Beyond COVID-19, XFBD is being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials for the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) as an adjunct to standard Western therapies.
