Xuanshen Tang is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) decoction primarily centered on the root of *Scrophularia ningpoensis* (玄参). It is traditionally employed to "clear heat," "cool the blood," and "nourish yin," making it a standard treatment for conditions involving internal heat and fluid deficiency. Clinical applications include the treatment of chronic pharyngitis, sore throat, febrile illnesses, and constipation. The formula's therapeutic effects are attributed to the presence of iridoid glycosides, such as harpagoside, and phenylpropanoid glycosides, which exhibit significant anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and immunomodulatory activities by suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines and signaling pathways.
