Overview

Xuebijing is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) injection developed by Tianjin Chase Sun Pharmaceutical for the treatment of sepsis, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). It is a complex botanical extract derived from five medicinal herbs: *Carthamus tinctorius* (safflower), *Paeonia lactiflora* (red peony root), *Ligusticum chuanxiong* (chuanxiong), *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (danshen), and *Angelica sinensis* (dang-gui). The drug functions by inhibiting the cytokine storm associated with severe infection, specifically targeting pro-inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and HMGB1. Additionally, it helps regulate the coagulation system and improves microcirculation. Xuebijing is widely used in intensive care units in China and gained international attention for its inclusion in the national clinical guidelines for the treatment of COVID-19.
