Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xuezhatai is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Changsha Innovative Traditional Chinese Medicine Modernization Research Institute and manufactured by Hunan Warrant Pharmaceutical. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, specifically cases classified under the TCM syndrome of phlegm-stasis obstruction. The drug is a modernized herbal preparation composed of six key ingredients: *Crataegus pinnatifida* (Hawthorn), *Polygonum multiflorum* (He Shou Wu), *Alisma plantago-aquatica* (Ze Xie), *Nelumbo nucifera* (Lotus leaf), *Senna tora* (Cassia seed), and *Rheum palmatum* (Rhubarb). Pharmacologically, Xuezhatai acts by regulating lipid metabolism, which includes the inhibition of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase to reduce endogenous cholesterol synthesis, as well as promoting the excretion of lipids and inhibiting the absorption of exogenous fats. Clinical application has shown it effectively lowers total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) while potentially increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).
