Xuezhikang

**Xuezhikang** is an orally administered, standardized Chinese red yeast rice extract product used primarily for dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk management in China. It is a multi-constituent product containing natural monacolins, including monacolin K whose lactone form is chemically identical to lovastatin, as well as other monacolins, unsaturated fatty acids, sterols, flavonoids, amino acids, and related fermentation-derived constituents. Its principal pharmacologic activity is inhibition of hepatic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase through monacolin K and related monacolins, reducing cholesterol synthesis and circulating LDL cholesterol. Clinical studies have reported reductions in LDL-C, total cholesterol, triglycerides, apolipoprotein B, inflammatory markers, and cardiovascular events in Chinese populations with prior myocardial infarction. Xuezhikang has been developed and marketed by Luye Pharma through WBL Peking University Biotech, with AstraZeneca having received exclusive promotion rights in mainland China under a commercial collaboration.
