Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xuming Tongmai decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and cerebral infarction. Based on classical "Xuming" formulas, it is designed to address the TCM syndrome of "wind-phlegm blocking the collaterals." The decoction is composed of multiple herbal ingredients that work synergistically to provide neuroprotection, improve cerebral microcirculation, and modulate the inflammatory response. Research indicates that it can reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), while also inhibiting neuronal apoptosis by regulating caspase-3 activity. It is primarily used in the acute and subacute phases of stroke to limit infarct volume and improve neurological outcomes.
