Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xushan Qingfei Mixture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, based on the clinical experience of the renowned TCM expert Sun Xushan. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), particularly during acute exacerbations (AECOPD) associated with the phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs syndrome. The formulation consists of several botanical and mineral ingredients, including *Scutellaria baicalensis*, *Houttuynia cordata*, and *Ephedra sinica*, which work synergistically to clear heat, resolve phlegm, and suppress cough. Mechanistically, the mixture exerts potent anti-inflammatory effects by reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha, IL-6, and IL-8 in the airway, thereby decreasing mucus hypersecretion and improving pulmonary ventilation. It is a legally recognized hospital preparation in China, permitted for use within the developing institution's medical network.
