Overview

XV-207 is an ultra-long-acting prodrug of tenofovir, a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), developed by Exavir Therapeutics and licensed to ViiV Healthcare. It utilizes a proprietary prodrug nanomedicine technology designed to enable dosing as infrequently as once every six months for the treatment and prevention of HIV-1 infection. By extending the pharmacokinetic profile of tenofovir, XV-207 aims to address challenges related to treatment adherence in HIV therapy. The compound was part of a 2024 settlement and license agreement between Exavir and ViiV Healthcare, which granted ViiV exclusive rights to develop and commercialize Exavir's portfolio of ultra-long-acting HIV candidates.
