Drug intelligence / Profile preview
XVIR-210 is an investigational long-acting **nano-formulated prodrug of tenofovir** being developed by Exavir Therapeutics for chronic hepatitis B virus infection, HIV treatment and prophylaxis, and HBV-HIV co-infection. It is designed for **intramuscular administration** to achieve sustained tissue exposure to tenofovir and its active intracellular metabolite tenofovir diphosphate over an extended period. Functionally, it acts as a **reverse transcriptase inhibitor** through delivery of the nucleotide analog tenofovir, with preclinical studies reporting prolonged antiviral-level drug exposure for more than two months and biodistribution into target tissues including liver and lymphatic compartments.
