XW019 is a preclinical-stage, long-acting tri-agonist that simultaneously targets the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor, and glucagon receptor (GCGR). Developed by Hangzhou Sciwind Biosciences, it is being investigated for the treatment of metabolic disorders, primarily overweight and obesity. The drug is designed to leverage the synergistic effects of activating all three receptors: GLP-1 and GIP receptor activation enhances insulin secretion and suppresses appetite, while glucagon receptor activation increases energy expenditure and thermogenesis. This multi-receptor approach is intended to provide enhanced weight loss efficacy and metabolic improvements compared to single or dual incretin mimetics.
