Overview
XW10508 MR is an investigational, once-daily, extended-release oral small molecule prodrug of esketamine developed by XWPharma. It acts as a glutamatergic N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist and an alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptor activator. The drug is designed with potential abuse-deterrent properties and is being evaluated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), including treatment-resistant depression, and chronic pain. By utilizing a prodrug approach and a modified-release formulation, XW10508 MR aims to provide sustained therapeutic levels of esketamine while minimizing the peak-related side effects and abuse potential typically associated with ketamine-based therapies.
