Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xycrobes are a live biotherapeutic technology platform consisting of engineered skin-derived commensal bacteria. Developed by Xycrobe Therapeutics and acquired by Crown Laboratories, the technology is commercialized under the brand name BIOJUVE™. [8, 9] The active ingredient is a specific living strain of beneficial bacteria, *Cutibacterium acnes subspecies defendens* (strain XYCM42). [3, 7] These microbes are delivered topically, where they live on the skin and in follicles to naturally produce and deliver biotherapeutics such as proteins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory mediators. [2] The technology is designed to beneficially modulate the skin microbiome to treat inflammatory skin conditions and signs of aging by replacing pathogenic flora with beneficial microbes, consuming excess oil, and releasing skin-healthy molecules. [4, 6]
