Overview

XYF13 CAR-T is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy targeting interleukin-13 receptor alpha 2 (IL-13Rα2), an antigen frequently overexpressed in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of the Air Force Military Medical University (Xijing Hospital), the therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes and binds to IL-13Rα2 on the surface of tumor cells, triggering T-cell activation and subsequent tumor cell lysis. Because IL-13Rα2 is minimally expressed in normal brain tissue, it serves as a selective target for immunotherapy in the central nervous system. XYF13 CAR-T is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for patients with recurrent glioblastoma, with administration typically performed via intracerebroventricular or intratumoral injection to maximize local exposure and bypass the blood-brain barrier.
