Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xylarex is a branded, non-antibiotic oral solution containing the sugar alcohol xylitol, developed for the dietary management of recurrent acute otitis media (ear infections) in children. It is intended for daily administration to reduce the frequency of ear infections, leveraging xylitol’s ability to interfere with the growth and adherence of otitis-associated pathogens in the nasopharynx and middle ear while avoiding antibiotic exposure.[7][11] As a medical food–type product rather than a conventional prescription drug, Xylarex is positioned for chronic pediatric use under medical supervision in children with a history of recurrent acute otitis media.[7][11]
