Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xyloglucan + pea protein is a natural product combination developed by Devintec SAGL for the management of gastrointestinal and dermatological disorders. The combination consists of xyloglucan, a polysaccharide derived from tamarind seeds (*Tamarindus indica*), and pea protein from *Pisum sativum*. It functions as a mechanical barrier protector (a "bio-barrier") that coats mucosal and epithelial surfaces. This protective film prevents the adhesion and penetration of pathogens and allergens while promoting the restoration of tight junction proteins, including ZO-1, occludin, and claudin-1. Clinically, it is used for conditions such as atopic dermatitis, where it has shown efficacy comparable to low-potency corticosteroids, and for gastrointestinal issues like irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) and functional bloating. It is approved in Europe as a medical device for restoring intestinal barrier integrity.
