xylometazoline + dexpanthenol (Zentiva)

Antirin is a fixed-dose combination nasal spray developed by Zentiva, primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of nasal congestion associated with acute viral rhinitis (the common cold). It contains two active pharmaceutical ingredients: xylometazoline hydrochloride and dexpanthenol. Xylometazoline is a sympathomimetic agent that acts as an agonist at alpha-adrenergic receptors, causing vasoconstriction of the nasal mucosal blood vessels, which reduces edema and congestion. Dexpanthenol, a stable alcoholic analog of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), acts as a precursor to coenzyme A, promoting epithelial healing and protecting the nasal mucosa from the drying and irritating effects typically associated with topical decongestants. Antirin was evaluated in a Phase 3 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter trial in Czechia (NCT04114305), where its efficacy and safety were compared against the reference product Nasic and a placebo using the Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).
