Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Xylometazoline + eucalyptus oil** is a fixed-dose combination nasal product used for the symptomatic relief of nasal congestion. **Xylometazoline** is a topical nasal decongestant in the imidazoline class of sympathomimetic amines. It works predominantly as an agonist at alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa, causing vasoconstriction and subsequent reduction of swelling and nasal congestion. **Eucalyptus oil** (containing cineole as a major component) provides additional benefits attributed to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. The combination is designed for short-term use (typically not more than 3–7 days) for the relief of symptoms associated with the common cold, allergic rhinitis, or sinusitis. Rebound congestion is a known risk with prolonged use of xylometazoline. The combination may be available in nasal spray or drops, and is generally available over the counter in several countries[5][1][2][4][3].
