**XZ.700** is a chimeric recombinant endolysin enzyme developed by Micreos Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with ETH Zurich. It selectively targets and lyses **Staphylococcus aureus** (including MRSA) by degrading its cell wall, combining elements from a bacteriophage endolysin and an S. aureus-specific bacteriocin, without affecting beneficial skin bacteria like **Staphylococcus epidermidis**. This preserves the skin microbiome and prevents resistance development, addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in inflammatory skin conditions. Preclinical studies demonstrate efficacy on reconstituted human skin, in mouse infection models, and against S. aureus colonization in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL), with a Phase I/IIa trial initiated for atopic dermatitis.[1][2][4][5]
