Overview

Y242 is a long-acting analogue of the gut hormone Peptide YY (PYY), developed as a potential treatment for obesity. PYY is naturally secreted by the bowels after eating and acts to reduce appetite and food intake. While native PYY has only short-lived effects, Y242 has been engineered to last much longer in the body, with animal studies showing an action profile of at least 72 hours following subcutaneous administration. In preclinical models, Y242 strongly inhibited food intake and induced weight loss without notable behavioral side effects. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary effects on appetite in overweight but otherwise healthy adults[4][1].
