Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yabro is a nebulized formulation containing 0.3% high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate, developed by IBSA (Institut Biochimique SA). It is primarily indicated as an adjuvant treatment for various respiratory conditions, including chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and rhinosinusitis, as well as for post-operative recovery following nasal surgery. The mechanism of action involves the restoration of the viscoelastic properties of the airway surface liquid, which facilitates mucociliary clearance and provides a protective barrier on the respiratory mucosa. Additionally, sodium hyaluronate interacts with cell surface receptors such as CD44 to modulate inflammatory processes and promote tissue repair and hydration within the respiratory tract. In many jurisdictions, including the European Union, Yabro is classified and marketed as a Class IIa medical device for inhalation.
