Yaglatimide (SY-004) is an orally active, small molecule dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor being developed by Yabao Pharmaceutical Group for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a member of the cyanopyrrolidine class of DPP-4 inhibitors, yaglatimide works by preventing the enzymatic degradation of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This action leads to increased levels of active incretins, which stimulate insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby improving glycemic control. The drug has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China, specifically focusing on its efficacy, safety, and tolerability in adults with type 2 diabetes who are inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone.
