Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yam Huatan Decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by researchers at Wangjing Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of severe pneumonia in elderly patients. The decoction is designed based on TCM principles to tonify the spleen and lungs while resolving phlegm (Huatan). It typically contains *Dioscorea opposita* (Yam) as a key ingredient to support the vital energy (Qi) of the lungs and spleen, combined with other botanical extracts aimed at clearing heat and facilitating the expectoration of phlegm. The formula is currently being evaluated in clinical trials to assess its efficacy in reducing inflammatory markers and improving clinical outcomes in geriatric patients with severe respiratory infections.
