Yang xue ruan jian capsule (also known as Yangxue Ruanjian capsule) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by Shi's Center of Orthopedics and Traumatology and Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is formulated as an extract derived from four main herbal ingredients: Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Mu Li (Concha Ostreae), Qin Jiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae), and Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), and is sometimes prepared with scorpion and centipede. The capsule is primarily used to treat knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and joint pain by nourishing blood, softening hardness, and relieving pain and inflammation. Its active components, such as paeoniflorin and gentianine, have been shown to inhibit synovitis, promote chondrocyte proliferation, and protect articular cartilage.
