Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yangyin Fang (养阴方) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula, typically classified as a compound herbal prescription. It is designed to "nourish yin," which in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) refers to replenishing bodily fluids and counteracting internal heat or dryness. While the exact composition of Yangyin Fang can vary, similar formulas such as Yang Yin Qing Fei Tang (养阴清肺汤) are well-documented and often used for conditions like chronic pharyngitis, dry cough due to lung yin deficiency, hoarseness, and throat discomfort. These formulas commonly include herbs such as lily (Lilium), dogwood (Cornus officinalis), kelp (Laminaria), angelica dahurica, rehmannia root (生地), ophiopogon japonicus (麦冬), scrophularia ningpoensis (玄参), fritillaria bulb (贝母), moutan bark (丹皮), mint leaf (薄荷), white peony root (白芍), and licorice root (甘草). The mechanism of action is based on TCM principles—nourishing yin fluids, clearing heat from the lungs or throat, moistening dryness, resolving phlegm, relieving coughs and soothing the throat[5][6][1]. There is no evidence that this formula acts via specific molecular targets recognized in Western pharmacology; its effects are attributed to synergistic actions of its herbal components.
