Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yanhuanglian total alkaloid is a botanical drug candidate consisting of a purified alkaloid fraction extracted from the medicinal plant *Corydalis saxicola* Bunting (known in China as Yanhuanglian). Developed by Nanjing Hongjing Pharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd., it is primarily investigated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B and other inflammatory liver diseases. The extract contains several bioactive isoquinoline alkaloids, with dehydrocavidine, berberine, and palmatine being the primary constituents. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA replication and the reduction of serum transaminase levels, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Additionally, it exhibits hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties by modulating cytokine production and protecting hepatocytes from oxidative stress and fibrotic progression.
