The medication is typically composed of five herbal ingredients: *Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex* (Huangbai), *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian), *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin), and *Isatidis Radix* (Banlangen). These components contain active alkaloids and flavonoids, such as berberine and baicalin, which contribute to its therapeutic effects against acute tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and gastritis.
