Drug intelligence / Profile preview
YAQ007 is the oral formulation of L-ornithine phenylacetate (L-OPA), a small molecule ammonia-scavenging agent developed for the prevention of recurrence of overt hepatic encephalopathy (HE) in patients with advanced liver disease. It acts by reducing systemic ammonia levels through enhanced conversion and excretion pathways. The drug’s mechanism involves modulation of aminohydrolase activity, scavenging ammonia, and modulating NF-kappa B and nitric oxide synthase pathways. YAQ007 is being developed by Yaqrit as an outpatient therapy to address unmet needs in HE management. As of 2025, it is advancing into phase 2b/3 clinical trials for this indication[1][2][4][5].
