Yaz

Yaz is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) containing the progestin drospirenone (3 mg) and the synthetic estrogen ethinyl estradiol (0.02 mg). Drospirenone is a spironolactone analogue that possesses unique anti-mineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic properties, which distinguish it from other synthetic progestins. The drug works primarily by suppressing ovulation through the inhibition of gonadotropin secretion (FSH and LH). Yaz is FDA-approved for contraception, the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris, and the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in the general population.
