Overview

YB209 is a low molecular weight fucosylated glycosaminoglycan sodium (LMW-FG) developed by Mudanjiang Youbo Pharmaceutical. It is a depolymerized derivative of fucosylated glycosaminoglycan, a unique sulfated polysaccharide typically extracted from sea cucumbers (such as *Apostichopus japonicus*). YB209 functions as an anticoagulant by selectively inhibiting the intrinsic tenase complex (FIXa-FVIIIa) and thrombin, thereby preventing the formation of fibrin clots. Unlike traditional heparins, its mechanism is largely independent of antithrombin III. It is currently in clinical development for the prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery, such as total knee arthroplasty, where it is being evaluated for its safety and efficacy compared to standard treatments like enoxaparin.
