Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yellow black tea Shengmai decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation currently under clinical investigation for the treatment of stable angina pectoris with Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. The formula appears to be a combination product, integrating elements of "yellow black tea"—which likely refers to a blend of yellow and black teas—and "Shengmai decoction" (also known as Sheng Mai San or Sheng Mai Yin). Shengmai decoction is an established TCM formula composed primarily of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (ginseng), Ophiopogonis Radix (ophiopogon root), and Schisandrae chinensis Fructus (schisandra fruit). It is traditionally used to tonify Qi, nourish Yin, generate body fluids, and support cardiovascular and respiratory function. Mechanistically, it has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects in preclinical studies by inhibiting pro-inflammatory signaling molecules. The addition of yellow and black teas may contribute further antioxidant or cardiovascular benefits due to their polyphenol content; however, the precise composition and pharmacological profile of this specific combination have not been fully elucidated in published literature[6][8][10]. A phase 4 clinical trial is registered in China for this formulation targeting stable angina pectoris with Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome[7].
