Overview
Yellow-dragon Wonderful-Seed formula is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal combination developed as a modification of the "Four Wonderful Herbs Powder" (4WHP). It is primarily used for the management of hyperuricemia and gout associated with the TCM pattern known as "dampness-heat pouring downward." The formulation typically contains Phellodendron chinense cortex (10 g), Atractylodes lancea rhizome (9 g), Cyathula officinalis radix (10 g), Coix lacryma-jobi seeds (20 g), Pheretima (10 g), and Cardamom (6 g)[3][8]. The mechanism of action is believed to involve mild inhibition of xanthine oxidase and possibly adenosine deaminase at higher doses, but clinical studies have shown no significant reduction in serum uric acid compared to allopurinol[1][3]. Some evidence suggests it may promote urate excretion via renal transporters. No significant adverse effects have been reported in clinical trials[1][4].
