This is a combination immunization approach involving the simultaneous or sequential administration of two live attenuated vaccines: the yellow fever vaccine and the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The yellow fever vaccine is prepared from the 17D-204 strain of yellow fever virus grown in chicken embryos and is indicated for prevention of yellow fever, a mosquito-borne flavivirus infection. The MMR vaccine contains live attenuated strains of measles (Schwarz), mumps (Jeryl Lynn), and rubella (Wistar RA 27/3) viruses for active immunization against these diseases. Both vaccines stimulate an immune response by mimicking natural infection to induce long-lasting immunity. Co-administration is sometimes practiced in endemic areas or when rapid protection against both sets of diseases is needed; however, studies indicate that simultaneous administration may result in slightly lower antibody titers for some antigens compared to separate administration by at least 30 days. Despite this reduction in antibody levels for certain components (notably rubella and yellow fever), seroconversion rates remain high and effective protection can be achieved[1][4]. Clinical guidelines recommend considering a ≥30-day interval between these two vaccines if possible[1][10].
