Overview
Yeongyopaedok-san (YPS) is a traditional multi-component herbal medicine widely used in Korea and China for the treatment of inflammatory conditions, including upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) and acute skin infections such as furuncles and carbuncles. The formula typically comprises a combination of several herbs, with *Forsythiae Fructus* (Yeongyo), *Lonicerae Flos*, *Platycodi Radix*, and *Schizonepetae Spica* serving as key ingredients. Pharmacological studies indicate that YPS exerts anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic effects, primarily by suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6, and inhibiting inflammatory mediators like prostaglandin E2. It is often administered as a standardized granule or decoction to alleviate symptoms of the common cold, such as sore throat, fever, and headache.
