Overview

YGD is a mixed herbal preparation containing Yerbe Maté (leaves of Ilex paraguayensis), Guarana (seeds of Paullinia cupana), and Damiana (leaves of Turnera diffusa var. aphrodisiaca). It is being investigated for its effects on weight loss and weight maintenance in overweight and obese patients. The preparation works by significantly delaying gastric emptying, which in turn reduces the time to perceived gastric fullness and leads to a reduction in body weight. Clinical studies have shown its efficacy in inducing weight loss over 45 days and maintaining weight over 12 months.
