YH12852 is a novel, orally administered small molecule that acts as a highly selective agonist of the serotonin 4 (5-HT4) receptor. It is being developed primarily for the treatment of functional gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders such as functional constipation, gastroparesis (including diabetic gastroparesis), and dyspepsia. The drug enhances GI motility by stimulating the 5-HT4 receptor, which plays a key role in promoting peristalsis and improving bowel movements. Unlike earlier less-selective 5-HT4 agonists that were associated with cardiovascular side effects due to off-target activity at other serotonin receptors, YH12852 demonstrates high selectivity for the 5-HT4 receptor and has shown favorable safety and tolerability profiles in clinical studies up to Phase II[1][2][3][4][5][6]. Originally developed by Yuhan Corporation in South Korea, it is now also being advanced by Processa Pharmaceuticals under license[4][5].
