YH18968 is a novel small molecule agonist of G-protein coupled receptor 119 (GPR119), developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to the chemical class of 1,2,4-triazolones. The drug acts by activating GPR119, which leads to increased secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) from intestinal L cells and enhances glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS). This dual action improves glucose tolerance and augments the plasma level of active GLP-1, thereby contributing to better glycemic control in diabetic models[1][3][5]. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in improving glucose homeostasis.
