Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yi Gong San is a traditional Chinese herbal formula classified as an "Extraordinary Merit Powder." It is primarily used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat Spleen Qi deficiency with symptoms such as poor appetite, fatigue, abdominal distension, and loose stools. The formula strengthens the Spleen and augments Qi while harmonizing the Stomach and circulating Qi. Its classical composition includes Codonopsis (Dang Shen), White Atractylodes root (Bai Zhu), Poria Cocos mushroom (Fu Ling), Honey Baked Licorice root (Zhi Gan Cao), Aged Tangerine peel (Chen Pi), Fresh Ginger rhizome (Sheng Jiang), and sour Date (Da Zao). Mechanistically, it acts by tonifying splenic Qi and resolving stagnation. Modern research suggests that Yi Gong San may regulate iron homeostasis via downregulation of HAMP mRNA through IL-6/STAT3 or BMP/HJV/SMAD pathways[8][10]. It is based on the classic Si Jun Zi Tang formula with added ingredients to address additional symptoms such as mild digestive stagnation[4][8].
