Overview

Yi-Ke-Ding (also known as YKD or Yikedine) is a proprietary Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation developed by the Department of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine at West China Hospital, Sichuan University. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis (gallstones). The preparation is a combination of herbal extracts, primarily including *Desmodium styracifolium* (Jin Qian Cao), *Curcuma wenyujin* (Yu Jin), and *Artemisia capillaris* (Yin Chen). Yi-Ke-Ding exerts its therapeutic effects through choleretic activity, which promotes the secretion and flow of bile, and anti-inflammatory actions that reduce gallbladder mucosal damage and wall thickening. Additionally, it possesses spasmolytic properties that help relax the biliary tract and the sphincter of Oddi, facilitating the passage of bile and small stones. It is used clinically as a hospital-made preparation (院内制剂) within the West China Hospital system to manage symptoms such as right upper quadrant pain and dyspepsia.
