Overview

Yi-Qi Yang-Xue Tong-Luo Fang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the TCM Department of Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute. It is specifically designed for the management of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), a common and dose-limiting toxicity associated with taxane-based agents like paclitaxel. The formula is administered topically as a hand and foot bath. According to TCM principles, the formula aims to tonify Qi (Yi-Qi), nourish blood (Yang-Xue), and unblock the collaterals (Tong-Luo) to alleviate neuropathic symptoms such as numbness and paresthesia. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials to assess its efficacy and safety compared to standard neurotrophic agents like methylcobalamin, with a focus on improving the quality of life for cancer patients, particularly those with breast cancer.
