Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yi-Qi Zi-Shen is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation used primarily in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It consists of a combination of multiple carefully selected herbs with the aim of “tonifying qi and nourishing the kidney” according to TCM principles. Modern pharmacological analysis of the formula has identified at least 156 chemical constituents, prominently flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins. Mechanistic studies in animal models indicate that its anti-inflammatory effects in COPD are mainly associated with inhibition of the PI3K/Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway, leading to reduced airway inflammation and improved lung function. Clinical trials demonstrate that Yi-Qi Zi-Shen, when used in granule form as adjunct to conventional therapy, reduces acute exacerbations, improves dyspnea, enhances quality of life, and increases exercise capacity in patients with severe to very severe COPD[1][2].
