Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yigan Xiaoji Formula (YGXJ) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed for the treatment of liver cirrhosis and hepatic fibrosis. It is primarily researched by investigators at Dongzhimen Hospital, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. In preclinical models of early liver cirrhosis, YGXJ has been shown to improve liver function (reducing ALT and AST levels), inhibit hepatocyte degeneration, reduce collagen fiber deposition, and suppress hepatic stellate cell activation. Its mechanism of action involves modulating the balance of Ly6Chi/Ly6Clo macrophages, down-regulating the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-1beta, and up-regulating matrix metalloproteinases MMP9 and MMP12 to prevent disease progression.
